Somatic Therapy in Fort Worth & Across Texas
You can understand something intellectually and still feel it in your body every day. You can know, logically, that you are safe — and still find yourself bracing, constricting, holding your breath, or reacting in ways that don't match your current circumstances. That gap between knowing and feeling is where somatic work lives.
Somatic therapy is an approach to healing that includes the body in the process rather than treating it as separate from the mind. It's based on the understanding that trauma, stress, and emotional pain are stored not just in memory and thought, but in the nervous system and the physical body.
What Somatic Therapy Addresses
Trauma and PTSD where talk therapy has felt limited, chronic stress and tension patterns, anxiety that shows up physically, emotional numbness or disconnection from the body, nervous system dysregulation, grief held in the body, and the physical residue of long-term stress or difficult relationships.
What to Expect
Somatic work looks different from purely talk-based therapy. Your therapist may invite you to notice physical sensations, track what happens in your body as you talk about certain topics, slow down and pay attention to breath or posture, or explore what movement or grounding helps shift your state. The pace tends to be slower and more attentive than traditional talk therapy, which is intentional.
How We Incorporate Somatic Approaches
Several of our clinicians weave somatic awareness into their work alongside other modalities. EMDR, which Nona Perry, LCSW is certified in, has significant somatic components. Trauma-informed care across our practice attends to the body's role in trauma and healing. For clients specifically seeking body-centered work, we will match you with the clinician whose training and approach best fit what you are looking for.
In-Person & Virtual
Somatic-informed sessions are available in person at our Fort Worth office and virtually for clients across Texas.
